I was once saved by a lifeguard when I was young.  I had been taking swimming lessons at the YMCA near our home.  On this occasion I was doggie paddling across the deep end of the pool and in mind I was going to make it.  I must have looked like I was really struggling because the lifeguard jumped in and pulled me to the side of the pool and onto the deck. I remember wondering if he was angry with me because he seemed agitated.  To this day I do not remember worrying or any fear, but I was demoted to the Tadpole group afterward.
